About us
CTBT was founded in 2012 at University Hospital Hradec Králové as a joint commercialization office for researchers from three institutions.
The Centre for Transfer of Biomedical Technologies (CTBT) was founded in 2012 as a joint commercialization office for researchers from University Hospital Hradec Králové (UH HK), University of Hradec Králové (UHK) and the Faculty of Military Health Sciences of the University of Defence (FMHS). Although CTBT was mainly established due to research activities in life sciences, recently the Philosophical Faculty and Faculty of Education have also put effort into commercializing their results.
CTBT's main goal is the successful management of the commercialization of intellectual property — e.g. licensing patents or launching spin-off companies. For this purpose we provide researchers with administrative, legal and business development assistance. We actively search for suitable investors or business partners and negotiate licensing terms.
CTBT is a small regional TTO with four employees. Three specialists manage technologies from the beginning (identifying a new idea, technology, product, method or software) through improvement (additional tests, market feedback, proof-of-concept projects, IP protection) to the end (licence, spin-off, assignment, exploitation). The infrastructure also includes 12 technological scouts from all three research institutions and, when needed, external lawyers and patent attorneys.
As each commercialization process is highly individual, CTBT must be very flexible in its approach. We always strive for a win-win strategy, in which both partners — the research institution and the private-sector organization — must benefit.
